A series dedicated to individuals and/or organizations crushing it in their respective industries. In a world in which we are deluged with content of varying quality, these innovators, activists and artists challenge and inspire. What better day to celebrate them (and motivate us to think, shift, act) than Monday?
Today’s crush is @The Conscious Kid, an organization I began following over the summer. Please see the description from their website below.

The Conscious Kid is an education, research and policy organization dedicated to reducing bias and promoting positive identity in youth. We partner with organizations, children’s museums, schools and families across the country to promote access to children’s books centering underrepresented and oppressed groups.

Since following @The Conscious Kid, I’ve turned a critical eye towards the books my daughter has on her shelf. The ones that feature human beings, as opposed to monsters and animals, are largely white (though, New York Baby is a lovely exception). Not only do these books not represent any sort of actual reality, they do not represent my daughter’s life. Her teachers, classmates, friends and fellow Philadelphians comprise a glorious array of folks.
