A series dedicated to individuals and/or organizations crushing it in their respective industries. In a world in which we are deluged with content of varying quality, these innovators, activists and artists challenge and inspire. What better day to celebrate them (and motivate us to think, shift, act) than Monday?
With Thursday just around the corner, today’s crush is @lilnativeboy, Allen Salway, who criticizes the depiction of Native Americans in the media, dispels the mythology of Thanksgiving, generates awareness of issues rampant on reservations and is an ambassador for DigDeep and so much more. Oh, and Salway is 20 years old. May we we all work as hard and as passionately.
I’m horrified when I think about the old Thanksgiving pic of my classmates and me from our elementary school days in Northern Virginia, which made the local paper. I was wearing a headdress made out of construction paper. Our hometeam football team? The Washington Redskins. Back in the days of Joe Theismann.
My dad asked me if my daughter’s daycare would be doing something special for Thanksgiving, like dressing the kids up like pilgrims. Thank God, no.

Thank you, Allen.
