Today is my husband’s 37th birthday. I’m always grateful for his birthday – not only as a chance to celebrate him and his life – but as an opportunity to selfishly pretend I’m only two years older.
I’m especially grateful for today because I’m at 16 weeks and we had our 16 week ultrasound this morning. We saw our baby girl’s fingers and toes and stomach and perfect (thank God!) spine. One of our early genetic marker tests had showed a slightly increased chance of spina bifuda. We had a less-than-pleasant Eastern European technician, much like the nasty lady we had during our last pregnancy but the doctor who came in after was very nice indeed.
We asked her the amnio question – to have one or not – and she said most people who receive the preliminary results that we did do not generally go on to have amnios. Folks who will worry throughout the pregnancy without that definitive yes or no answer do get them.
We decided, in honor of Steve’s birthday, to post the news to social media for the first time, using a picture Steve took while we were in Florida last month.
